Anand Channar is a contemporary Indian artist working in the Middle East. His vibrant and expressive mixed-media works celebrate his unique and distinctive ethnic heritage, which has had the single greatest impact on his ouevre.
Born in Kerala, he graduated in fine arts with a distinction from the prestigious Ravi Verma College of Fine Arts, Kerala. One year after his graduation, Channar moved to Bombay where he started to work as a commercial artist in an advertising agency. Very soon he started his own graphic design studio in Bombay. He also continued his artistic studies at the Sir JJ School of Applied Art.
In 1978 he moved to Dubai, UAE, with his family to start his own graphic design and below the line production unit, a pioneer in the field at the time. While grappling with the challenges of setting up his own business in a foreign country, Anand continued to paint in the studio he set up in his home.
As a full time artist Anand enjoys every spare moment painting in his studio experimenting with a range of materials in his mixed media works such as jute, linen, metal, wood and acrylic. Anand displays his work at his own gallery as well showcasing his works at various art shows. He has exhibited his work in several group and solo shows held in Canada, Bombay, Kerala and Dubai.
