Born in Russia, she has lived and worked in Dubai, since the year 2000.

Smoldyreva started her career in art and literature, to discover later in her life the fantastic medium of clay. Her current main interest is figurative sculpture.

Katerina´s work reflects the things she see and experience every day. At the same time, the observer can feel that her inspiration comes from a wide array of sources and media: from German New Objectivity artists to the music of George Gershwin; from Dickens and Dostoyevsky's satirical sketches of people to the art of Ballets Russes.

The “Little Ladies” series, available at the gallery, are sculpted in the style of 1920's fashion magazine illustrations. Each one is caught in a moment of time and surrounded by things which best reflect her personality.

Each original statuette is one of a kind, hand built from ceramic clay and hand painted with no parts being molded and with no exact duplications being authorized.
